What this site does
6 Letter Words helps people who play tile games, solve crosswords and anagram puzzles, or enjoy six-letter guessing games. You can search by known letters and positions, rule letters out, or unscramble a rack of tiles. Letter pages let you browse every word instead of searching.
Where the words come from
Each language has its own list. The English list is built from the open-source word-list package (MIT licence) and filtered to lowercase alphabetic entries of exactly six letters, giving 22,342 words. The other six languages use the most frequent six-letter entries of an open word-frequency corpus (CC BY-SA 4.0), capped at 5,000 words each so the common vocabulary leads. Lists are rebuilt whenever a source is updated. The same sources also build the seven-, eight-, nine- and ten-letter lists linked from every page.
How points and statistics are calculated
Tile values follow each language's official distribution where one exists. Every count, percentage and ranking on the site is generated directly from the word list when the site is built, so figures and pages always agree. Accented characters are folded to their base letter for searching and grouping, so typing e also finds é, while words are always shown in their usual spelling.
Limits you should know about
No single word list matches every game. Official dictionaries, daily word puzzles and crossword publishers each maintain their own lists. A word shown here may be rejected by a particular game, and frequency-based lists can include uncommon or proper words. For tournaments, disputes or anything that matters, check the official dictionary of the game you are playing.
Editorial policy and corrections
Pages are generated from one source list per language, so mistakes are usually data issues rather than typing errors. If you spot a missing word, an unwanted word or a wrong figure, tell us through the contact page. We review reports, correct the list when the evidence is clear, and update the date shown in the footer. Last full update: October 12, 2026.
